DAY 01 :
Arrival at Addis Ababa and checkin to Ghion hotel. Note that if your arrival is in the late or midmorning session, do birding surrounding Addis Ababa including Ghion compounds and Gefersa reservoirs.

DAY 02 :
Bushoftu Crater lakes, Hora and Chalaklaka are important for species including Black Crowned Crane, Goliath Heron, Northern Shoveler, Grey Heron, Northern Pintail, Hottentot Teal, Cape Teal, Yellow-billed Stork, Glossy Ibis, Hadada Ibis, African Spoonbill, Greater, Flamingo, Spur-winged Goose, Knob-billed Duck, White-faced and Fulvous Whistling Duck,African Pygmy Goose, Yellow-billed Duck and Egyptian Goose. The lakes edge sedges and acacia trees support African Thrush, African Dusky Flycatcher, Beautiful Sunbird, Ruppell’s Weaver, Village Weaver, Marsh Harrier, Little Stint, Temmink’s Stint, Black-winged Lovebird, Red-eyed Dove, Speckled Mousebird, Black-billed Barbet, Banded Barbet, Bruce’s Green Pigeon, Spectacled Weaver, Ruppell’s Weaver, African Quailfinch and Village Indigobird.

DAY 03 :
Ali Deghe plain acacia bushes are good habitats for birds including Somali Ostrich, Arabian Bustard, Kori Bustard, Black-headed Lapwing, Secretarybird, African Collared Dove, Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Yellow-throated Sandgrouse, Somali Fiscal, White-headed Buffalo Weaver, Rosy-patched Bush-shrike, Abyssinian Roller, Rufous-crowned Roller, Gillett’s Lark, Chestnut-backed Sparrow-Lark, Pygmy Falcon and Eastern Chanting Goshawk. Doho lodge at the ‘Filwoha’ means hot springs spa palm trees and bushland inhabit species like African Palm Swift, Orange-bellied Parrot, Blue-headed Coucal, Slender-tailed Nightjar, Giant Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Buff-bellied Warbler, Crested Francolin, African Hornbill, Eastern Yellow-billed Hornbill, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, Black-billed Wood-Hoopoe, Black-throated Barbet, Red-fronted Barbet, Superb Starling, Ruppell’s Starling, White-headed and Red-billed Buffalo Weavers and White-browed Sparrow-weaver.

DAY 04 :
Explore the Ilala Sala plains and acacia thickets with mixed woodlands for species including Buff-crested Bustard, White-bellied Bustard, Lichtenstein’s Sandgrouse, Yellow-necked Francolin, Pallid Harrier, Montagu’s Harrier, Fan-tailed Raven, Bristle-crowned Starling, Somali Bunting, Grey Wren-warbler, Tawny-flanked Prinia, Sombre Rock Chat, Blackstart, Red-fronted Warbler, Abyssinian Scimitarbill, Cut-throat Finch, Northern White-crowned Shrike, Rosy-patched Bush-shrike, Orange-breasted Bush-shrike, Grey-headed Bush-shrike, Cardinal Woodpecker, Red-fronted Tinkerbird, Marico Sunbird, Beautiful Sunbird, Nile Valley Sunbird, Long-tailed Paradise Whydah, Pin-tailed Whydah, Straw-tailed Whydah, Green-winged Pytilia, African Collared Dove, Pearl-spotted Owlet, Star-spotted Nightjar, Striped Kingfisher, Little Bee-eater, White-throated Bee-eater, Olive Bee-eater, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, White-browed Scrub Robin, Rufous Scrub Robin, Singing Cisticola, Mouse-colored Penduline-tit, Yellow-spotted Petronia, Bush Petronia, Pale Rockfinch, Lesser Masked Weaver, Vitelline Masked Weaver, Crimson-rumped Waxbill, African Silverbill and Red-billed Quelea. DAY 05 :
Transfer to the Bale Mountains Park located across the other side of the Great Rift Valley. Along the roadside fallowland lures Black-Winged Plover, Crowned Plover, White-collared Pigeon, Speckled Pigeon, Wattled Ibis, Sacred Ibis, Pied Wheatear, Pied Crow, Blue-winged Goose, Yellow-billed Duck, Rouget’s Rail, Ethiopian Cisticola, Ethiopian Stone Chat, Thick-billed Raven, Abyssinian Longclaw, Red-breasted Wheatear, Ethiopian Cisticola, Grassland Pipit, White-winged Widowbird, Abyssinian Owl, African Wood Owl, Montane Nightjar and among birds of prey are Lesser Spotted Eagle, Steppe Eagle, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Lappet-faced Vulture, White-headed Vulture, Mountain Buzzard, Common Kestrel and Lanner Falcon. Animals: Mountain Nyala, Bohor Reedbuck, Bush Duiker, Menelik’s Bushbuck and Klipspringer.

DAY 06 :
Beyond Goba is stand of Juniper and Hagenia Abyssinica forest harbors Abyssinian Catbird, Ethiopian Oriole, Abyssinian Ground Thrush, White-backed Black Tit, Abyssinian Woodpecker, Brown Woodland Warbler, Red-winged Starling, Slender-billed Starling, Thick-billed Raven, Yellow-bellied Waxbill, Common Waxbill and Mountain Thrush. The Sanetti plateau afro-alpine landscape is very important to search the rare and unique Ethiopian Wolf, Wattled Crane, Lammergeier, Golden Eagle, Barbary Falcon, Augur Buzzard, Ruddy Shelduck, Red-billed Chough, Ethiopian Siskin, Spot-breasted Plover, Rouget’s Rail, Red-throated Pipit, Chestnut-napped Francolin, Moorland Francolin, Bale Parisoma and Cinnamon Bracken Warbler. Harena Forest is one of the remnant tropical wet forest on the southern lee side of Bale Mountains, that harbors the endemic ’Bale Monkey‘ feeding on bamboo leaves and bird species are Abyssinian Catbird, Abyssinian Oriole, Abyssinian Crimsonwing, Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu, African Crowned Eagle, Great Sparrow-hawk, Red-chested Cuckoo, African Emerald Cuckoo, African Hill Babbler, Black and White Manikin, African Citril, Greater Honeyguide and Yellow-crowned Canary.

DAY 07 :
Drive to Wendo Genet forest looking for species including Yellow-fronted Parrot, Abyssinian Oriole, White-cheeked Turaco, Banded Barbet, Double-toothed Barbet, Lemon Dove, Tambourine Dove, Brown Parisoma, Narina Trogon, Northern Puffback, Red-shouldered Cuckooshrike, Abyssinian Slay Flycatcher, African Dusky Flycatcher, Spotted Creeper, Abyssinian Woodpecker, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, White-rumped Babbler, Half-collared Kingfisher, Woodland Kingfisher, African Paradise Flycatcher, Wahlberg’s Honeybird and Scaly Honeyguide.

DAY 08 :
Lake Hawassa is very important birding wetland that harbors species including Black Crake, White-backed Duck, Great White Pelican, Common Sandpiper, Pied Kingfisher, Woodland Kingfisher, Purple Heron, Hamerkop, Lesser Black-backed Gull, White-winged Tern, Whiskered Tern, White-faced Whistling Duck, Hadada Ibis, African Jacana, Gulls, Great Reed Warbler, Lesser Swamp Warbler, African Reed Warbler, Eurasian Reed Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Dark-capped Yellow Warbler, Grosbeak Weaver, Red-throated Wryneck, Red-headed Weaver, Ruppell’s Starling, Crested Francolin, Black-winged Lovebird, Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Northern Red-billed Hornbill, Abyssinian Oriole Grey-backed Fiscal and Red-faced Cisticola.

DAY 09 :
Simbo lodge compounds by Lake Langano is very important birding ground for species including Hemprich’s Hornbill, Von der Decken’s Hornbill, Masked Shrike, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, White-rumped Seedeater, Eastern Olivaceous Warbler, Upcher’s Warbler, Grey-backed Camaroptera, Northern Crombec, Red-faced Crombec, Buff-bellied Warbler, Willow Warbler, Common Chiffchaff, White-bellied Go-Away-Bird, Bare-faced Go-Away-Bird, Red-throated Wryneck, Black-winged Lovebird, Blue-napped Mousebird, Ring-necked Doves, Thrush Nightingale, Black-throated Barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, Cardinal Woodpecker, Red-fronted Barbet, Banded Barbet, Varreaux’s Eagle-Owl, Greyish Eagle-Owl and Common Redstart.

DAY 10 :
Lake Ziway is important wetland for Black Crowned Crane, Yellow-billed Stork, Pygmy Goose, Black Heron, Goliath Heron, Saddle-billed Stork, Grey Heron, Spurwinged Goose, Grey-headed Gull, White-faced Whistling and Fulvous Whistling Ducks Lesser and Common Moorhen, Spurwinged Lapwing, Three-banded Plover, Common Ringed Plover, Kittlitz’s Plover, Grassland Pipit, African Stonechat, African Mourning Dove, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Nubian Woodpecker, Malachite Kingfisher, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Ethiopian Cisticola, Collared Pratincole, African Darter and Thrush Nightingale.
